In the Steps of Hugh Miller
FOR Hugh Miller, Cromarty and its environs embraced everything that was life enhancing; like belonging to a close-knit remote coastal community, and savouring the abundant natural world sustaining them. Cromarty was his “universe” framing his outlook on every aspect of his life and work. Here we take you on three walks around all the places which meant so much to him, many of which look much the same as they did in his time over a hundred and fifty years ago.
- Walk 1: takes you around Cromarty itself.
- Walk 2: passes the east bay where Miller made his important discoveries of Devonian fish. The walk then takes you to the top of the South Sutor and then down to MacFarquhar's bed.
- Walk 3: visits the shore at Eathie, another area where Miller made important geological finds.
